Ophelia November 1999 - December 12th, 2001
Calliope November 07th, 1999 - September 9th, 2001

Ophelia joined our remaining rat duo (Artemus and Casanunda) on December 18th, 1999. Ophelia was a tiny rattie, about 6 weeks old, when we got her. She came from a horrible pet store. Calliope joined the little group on January 10th, 2000. We had tried to introduce Calliope to another rat she was not accepted. Ophelia needed a young playmate and in Calliope she found one.

Calliope suffered from myco and had to be euthanized after a very happy long time with us. A few months later, Ophelia developed symptoms that indicated a pituitary tumor and we had to let her go, too. she spent almost two very happy years with us. In March 2001 Ophelia had one tumor removal and the tumor never grew back.

Ophelia and Calliope, we miss you.

Ophelia's quirks:

Chaser of strings and balls. Catlike, if you want to put it this way.
Stepped into the role of alpha in her little rat group of six..
Laid back and sleeve rat!
Her fur was gold, brown and red when the sun shone upon it.
Athletic climber of xmas tree. Got mites from it.
First inhabitant of the attic, i.e. the transporter box on top of the rat castle.

Calliope's quirks:

Faded from a beautiful grey-white to a stunning white with 3-5 grey hairs on top of her head.
Nicknamed Zwusel (a combinaton of Zwerg and Wusel = dwarfish derwish)
Fearless. Utterly. And loved everybody at first sight, human or rat.

Had some blonde moments. Looking clueless at feeding time..

Avid mountaineer. Climbed every pair of jeans "because it's there".
Interior decorator with a faible for round corners.
Took a great piece of my heart with her when she left us.
